2011 Purple Pig WRAP UP!

On March 5th, we tried something new.  A fund-raiser for Michigan Major Project.

I’m here to say that the almost 100 people that purchased tickets had a blast!  Great spaghetti and meatball dinner (thank you Betty Lampani, Mark Pospiech, Maryann and Steve Kosten)!  Betty was the chef….directing us all…and not only did we have fun helping to make the meatballs, it was delicious!  Many thanks to DJ Will – who did a fantastic job (and for free!), Sue Murtland and Erin Reurink for manning the raffle boards.  Meredith Vasquez for doing whatever I asked, and that night…it was a LOT!  Emily Blik for help in set up!  And to our members, and friends – who generously donated for our silent auction – all I can say is WOW and thank you.

The auction alone raised over $1,000 for MMP!

Special recognition goes to Norman Hudson, recipient of the MOST PIGS turned in for the year (21 and counting).  And the Elks Lodge Members won the award for BIGgest Giver!  The trophy is on display in Antler West.  We were fortunate to have MMP Executive Director, Lynn Cook and wife Brenda attend our Purple Pig….and it was great to see him looking so well!  Our membership stepped up this year.  Final tally will be posted in the May newsletter, but we surpassed our goal this year ($3,874) soundly.  While the final numbers are still being crunched, I can report today that the Purple Pig did raise (after our food costs) over $2,000.  THAT is awesome!  And if I heard once, I heard often: “this is just like old times” – from folks having fun, everyone enjoying seeing a packed Antler West and doing a good thing for Elkdom.  Thank you to everyone for participating in every way!

The overall aim of the Michigan Elks Major Project is to help handicapped children become
self-sufficient, healthy, contributing citizens of our communities. The Michigan Elks
Association assists handicapped children under the age of 18. The Major Project provides
facilitating services essential to treatment such as special examinations, therapy and special
prescriptions. The Major Project also sponsors attendance at Speech Camps, Diabetic
Camps, and Special Therapy Camps. Last year the Michigan Major Project provided more
than $12,000 to provide services and assistance in our community. Click here to learn even
